Says innovation is key to surmounting survival problems, challenges
The State Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, Ph.D, has today performed the Launching of North East Zonal Technology Board Project towards promoting technological innovations in the North East subregion.
Performing the event at the Banquet Hall of Custodian Hotel, Gombe, the Deputy Governor noted that the project which aims at harnessing intellectuals of innovation is coming at the right time when challenges seems to be overwhelming the human race despite advancement in knowledge, technology and other inventions.
Mr. Jatau said "Lovers of Gombe State ,i am happy and proud to address you at this important program of the state Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation in collaboration with the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) designed for the Northeast Zonal Launching of the NOTAP's research product' Technology Story Board". The debut of this product at this is apt and germaine since we are all aware that Government policy is geared towards enhancement, self reliance and sustainability of the economy".
He however expressed hope that in spite the daunting challenges, humanity has not given up and in line with the system theory that calls for interaction between organizations for the fruitful results in the society, states' Ministries of Science , Technology, and Innovation relate deeply with many organizations, including Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office ( IPTTO) which is one of the laudable achievements of NOTAP.
" Our government led by His Excellency, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has deep care and concern about improving the standard of living among residents of Gombe. Accordingly, the government has a very strong political will to promote, support and sustain innovative technologies that will help reduce to the nearest minimum import dependence and attendant effects of capital flight, killing of our local industries, innovation and invention among our nations. Our government is determine more than ever to enhance local content and strengthen self sufficiency in our productive capacities so as to create job opportunities, strengthen the economy, reduce poverty and overcome the challenges that thwart development decades in, decades out" he said.
He challenged the Commissioners from the North East Sub-region to take maximum advantage of the occasion to establish linkages, partnership and collaborations that will result in the socioeconomic growth , technological advancement and development of our societies.
In his remarks, the Director General, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion ( NOTAP)Dr. Dan'azumi M. Ibrahim said the office is mandated with responsibility of regulating of foreign technology, and promotion of local technology and innovation.
The Director-General said, the office assists innovators and institutions through research with a view to improving on their goods and services.
He said, they ensure protection of intellectual assets to minimise divulging of information concerning innovations into the public domain, so that pirates do not hijack the innovations.
In her welcome address, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Gombe State Dr. Aishatu Umar Maigari said, the the event is a dual event of launching of the " Technology Story Board" by the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) and the celebration of the giant strides and foot print of His Excellency, Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
She said the present administration has established the Ministry and gave it the broader mandate, and capacity to meet the challenges of the 21st century, a foresight that gave the ministry the ability to impact directly on the citizens in terms of nutrition, innovation, and collaborations, etc.
She further explained that, the event marks yet another successful collaboration between Gombe State Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and NOTAP, pointing out that Technology Story Board is the second product of NOTAP in Gombe , the first being the successful Commissioning of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office in Gombe State University and the sensitization of the Lecturers on the functions and activities of NOTAP.
She expressed happiness that the Technology Story Board will go a long way in enhancing critical thinking in the children and bridge the gap between society, academia and industry, especially at a time that His Excellency declared a state of emergency in the education sector upon assumption of office in 2019.
Highlight of the event include presentation of award to the three winners of the Young Nigerians Scientist Presidential Competition, and the inspection of innovations by the Deputy Governor flanked by other dignitaries.
